What is a vCIO?
Most people are familiar with the role of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) within an organization. The CEO is responsible for establishing the strategic vision for the organization, understanding what it will take to make that vision a reality, and guiding the organization in that direction. In larger organizations, the CEO works with other executive-level people to achieve these goals. A Chief Information Officer (CIO) can be one of these roles.

The CIO's mandate is to provide strategic direction in the area of Information Technology, making sure that the technology infrastructure is allowing employees and processes to run as efficiently as possible.

In today's marketplace, a computer network of some kind is essential in running a successful business. Networks come in all shapes and sizes and no two are exactly alike. However, the reality is that while every organization has a network of some kind, most do not have the scale to afford a CIO.
